면세점(DFS, Duty Free Shop)

전세계 대부분 국가는 경제 활동을 통해 생성되고 거래되는 물품에 세금을 부과하고 있으나 해당 국가가 아닌 외지에서 구입한 상품에 대해서는 일정 금액까지 면세 혜택을 주고 있다.

세계 최초의 공항 면세점은 아일랜드의 섀넌공항으로 1947년에 공항에 설치되어 운영되기 시작했다. ^[1]

면세점 위치

공항/항구 출국심사 이후 지역

가장 일반적으로 이용하는 면세점 위치로 거의 대부분 국제공항에서 운영되고 있다. 출국심사를 마친 이후 지역에 설치되어 있다.

공항/항구 도착 세관 검사장 이전 지역

본래 면세점의 취지와 다르다는 이유로 일반적으로 운영되지는 않고 있으나 일부 국가/공항에서는 도착 항공기 하기 후 세관지역을 통과하기 전 지역에 면세점을 운영하기도 한다. 우리나라 인천공항이 도착 면세점 설치를 추진하고 있지만 관세청 등 관련 당국은 본래 면세점 취지와 어긋나며 보안에도 위험 가능성이 있다면 반대하고 있다.

시내=

외국인 관광객을 위한 면세점으로 세금까지 다 지불하고 물품을 구입한 후 출국 시 관련 서류를 제출하고 세금을 돌려받는 형태로 운영된다.

항공기내=

국제선 운항 항공기 안에서 판매하는 물품으로 이 역시 면세 혜택이 주어진다.
